Stylists’ Assistant

This is a position designed to allow new hairdressers to eventually gain designer status at D. Knight Designs.

Qualifications

· Must be eighteen years or older

· Must be a licensed cosmetologist in the State of Michigan

· Must be energetic, and have a consistently self-motivated, pleasant attitude

· Must remain well-groomed and stylish at all times

· Must be willing to participate in salon events, even those out of work

Duties and Responsibilities

· To build a solid, professional relationship with the team

· Must maintain a consistent quality of work with each client

· Must be willing to meet and greet clients properly

· Maintain a clean, sanitary workstation for your senior stylist

· Arrive at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the first client

· Clean brushes and combs when necessary

· Keep bottles filled with appropriate fluids, etc.

· Wipe each chair and sweep after every client

· When not helping you senior stylist, aid others in need

· Be prompt

· Comply with all State of Michigan rules

· Run errands when asked

· Assist in the shampoo room when asked

Performance Standards

· After three months, the assistant should be able to perform the following tasks:

        -Colouring– Colour wheel, highlighting, touchups, and virgin bleaching

        -Permanent waving techniques including block-wrap, spiral wrap, and skip wave

        -Blow drying and finishing techniques

        -Roller and finger wave set with pin curls

        -Make-up application and theory

        -Provide a model and demonstrate the classic wedge haircut

· After six months, the assistant must provide a model and demonstrate a bob haircut design

· After one year, the assistant will give a full presentation demonstrating a full haircut and colour or permanent wave

· After one and a half years, the assistant will be able to move into the stylist position

· Stylists will charge slightly less than master designers and can advance their position when he or she is visibly ready to do so
